CNN is reporting that Saddam Hussein "suffers from a chronic prostate infection."(http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/meast/07/29/saddam.ap/index.html, accessed July 30, 2004.) It will be interesting to see what treatment he is offered, if such details are forthcoming. It has also been reported that he was offered a prostate biopsy, to check for prostate cancer, but that he has refused to undergo the biopsy. It’s unclear from news reports what Saddam Hussein’s PSA level is. Saddam Hussein is the deposed leader of Iraq. One news report contained this statement: “Chronic prostate infections occur in about 35 percent of men older than 50, but they are not linked to cancer. Routine screening for prostate cancer, especially among older men, is becoming more common.” (Rawya Rageh, The Associated Press. Saddam Hussein health reports disputed. July 30th 2004. Accessed July 30th, 2004 at http://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/news/special_packages/iraq/9280723.htm?1c) After this news story broke, comedian Jay Leno joked on the Tonight Show that, “Saddam was being invaded at both ends.” ----------------------------------------- Written for ProstatitisAndBPH.org July 30, 2004.
