Prostatitis Prevalence

The quote below is a good summary of the prevalence of prostatitis:

"Prostatitis is a major health problem and a source of serious frustration for both patients and clinicians. Most population based studies suggest that the prevalence of prostatitis is approximately 10% (range 6% to 16%). The condition is responsible for more than 2 million office visits per year in the United States and accounts for 8% of all visits to urologists. The National Ambulatory Care Survey reported 20 office visits per 1,000 men yearly. In addition, there are more physician visits for prostatitis then for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) or prostate cancer."

Dr. Jack and Dr. Zeitlin: "Confronting Prostatitis" in Contemporary Urology. November 2004. p. 34 - 35.
